🎯 How to Play 2048
2048 is a sliding-tile puzzle game played on a 4×4 grid. Use the Arrow Keys (or swipe on mobile) to slide all tiles in one direction simultaneously. When two tiles with the same number collide they merge into one tile whose value is their sum. After every move a new tile (value 2 or 4) appears in a random empty cell. Your goal is to create a tile that reaches your chosen win target — the classic target is 2048.
The game ends when the board is completely full and no adjacent tiles can merge. Use the Undo button to step back up to 10 moves. Three win-target options let you set a shorter challenge (512 or 1024) or play the full 2048 game. After reaching the win target you can choose to keep playing to push the highest tile as far as possible.
Tips & Strategies
- Corner strategy: Keep your highest tile locked in one corner (e.g. top-left) and never move it out.
- Build a descending chain of tiles along the top or bottom row toward your corner tile.
- Avoid the direction that would move your highest tile out of the corner.
- Plan 2–3 moves ahead before swiping — impulsive moves fill the board quickly.
- When the board gets tight, use Undo to test a direction safely then replay it.
About 2048
2048 was created by Italian developer Gabriele Cirulli and released in March 2014. Within one week it had over 4 million visitors. It was inspired by the earlier games 1024 by Veewo Studio and Threes!. The game’s elegant math — powers of 2 combining endlessly — makes it deeply satisfying to master. This version supports keyboard, mouse swipe, and touch swipe controls.
