🐍 How to Play Snake
Snake is a classic arcade game where you control a growing serpent on a grid. Use the Arrow Keys or WASD to steer in four directions. Each time the snake eats the red food circle it grows one segment longer and your score increases by 10 points. Speed gradually increases as you grow, so quick reflexes become essential.
The game ends if your snake hits a wall or collides with its own body. On Easy mode walls wrap around — going off the right edge brings you out on the left. On Medium and Hard walls are lethal. Every 8 food items eaten, the speed steps up by 0.25x. The maximum speed is 3.5x the starting pace.
Tips & Strategies
- Plan your route 3–5 moves ahead, especially as the snake grows longer.
- Avoid chasing food into tight corridors where you might trap yourself.
- On Easy, use wall-wrapping to escape tight spots quickly.
- Keep the snake moving in large sweeping loops to preserve maneuvering room.
- On Hard, start with controlled back-and-forth rows — it buys more time at high speed.
History & Background
Snake traces back to the 1976 arcade game Blockade. It became a global icon when Nokia pre-installed it on mobile phones starting in 1997 — one of the most-played games in history before smartphones arrived. This version adds progressive speed, three difficulty modes, a D-pad for mobile, and a local high-score leaderboard.
